@reverseification I remember the newspaper comparing game by game lemieux's 93 start with gretzky's best season of 215...it was going to be close and it would of been great for hockey if he broke it...Before he left he had 104 points in 40 games...he was on pace for 208 points...7 short of gretzky...I don't think people realize how hard it is to reach some of gretzky's numbers

Gretzky didn't deserve MVP in the 1988-1989 season; Mario clearly dominated the league that year with 199 points and with Rob Brown as his winger. Mario accounted for(via assists or goals) about half the Penguin's offensive performance that season.

Mario Lemieux had what I consider,one of the most underrated performance in sports history:

1993 Mario had the best start of his career and was on his way of breaking Wayne Gretzky's single season record for goals and points but then was diagnosed with hodgkins cancer, left the game for two months to have radiation therapy, only to come back and win the scoring title! By the way these are the top 2 goals per game leaders career ;
