Jonestown (in progress)

Rough cut of a video loop that is meant for a small flat screen monitor mounted on the wall. The piece uses archival images of Jonestown taken in 1979, a year after the mass suicide/murder in which over 900 people lost their lives. The photographer was Rebecca Moore who lost two sisters in the tragedy. The pictures are currently available to the public on a website about Jonestown she now maintains as a religious studies scholar.

The sound is taken from one of the countless recordings made at Jim Jones's request of public meetings at Jonestown. Jones's voice has been cut out, though his breathing is still audible, and what remains is the sort of "war whoop" the residents of Jonestown had developed in preparation for an anticipated attack by political forces they believed were out to undermine them.

The shimmering orb is meant to suggest the life force of Jonestown and the community it housed.

The shimering orb kinda resembles the monster in Terror from the Year 5000. As an effect, I think it works better in the Poor Audrey video
