@yourmomsamorman
in the score for the music, at least in the version my choir used, it had an asterist saying that there was an option to change the text to 'who will help me?' so, the score i have is about 10 to 15 years old, im not quite sure how long ago my director bought it, so i'm assuming it was put in there by the composer just incase somebody wanted to do the song but was an atheist, so just a little fun fact

i was part of this choir, and it is still the most beautiful verision i have heard. I was sad that we changed the words, but our director had to make that hard choice. the music and the feeling of the song is still the same. so respect the music for what it is, amazing!

I'm sorry to all the hispanics but my high school choir is filled with a bunch of lazy mexicans. They just get into choir to get the credit. And even our best singers aren't even eligible to participate in anything we do. I bet these students at this school are so Happy to be doing something that everyone enjoys doing. I know that at my school I'm just wasting my time.

@yourmomsamormon It gives you the option in the music of saying "Crying who will help me" or "Crying Jesus help me." This is the children of Bosnian Muslims the composer is talking about, and they don't believe in Jesus.

Agreed and for the fact that it is a public school, so is mine but we did it anyway. There is a message about what the children are going for, everyone has a belief in a higher being of some sort and this is just a rendition of these beliefs being put to reality, the fact of the matter is everyone goes to that higher power in a time of hardship and peace, your own personal savior so their is no reason to change it.

this is actually the original tempo. It is supposed to be drawn out to have a full effect of the High notes and the low bass. =] It is all personal opinion but I love it nice and slow.

It's a public high school in a very liberal town - they're just trying not to offend anyone.

Okay, great performance. But really, changing the text is ridiculous. Children, and people in general, pray to whatever higher power they believe in, not to some anonymous stranger (who will?). They pray to Jesus. Much more powerful than just a random cry for help.

Well done, but it really doesn't make sense if the words are changed to "who will" instead of "jesus". The children who were dying weren't crying for someone to come save them, they were crying "Jesus, help me!". No matter what your religious beliefs are, that is powerful. The change in text takes away from the song a lot.
