Stealth bombers are designed by private corporations... and I think that pretty much speaks for itself. No government run health care system will ever be "World Class".

Private corporations bomb and go broke via mismanagement and such a hundred times more often than governments - who are accountable to states/country/people. Those who screw up are roasted by the voters next election - and lose. Govt run insurance would run as good as the people who are put in place to run it. Good or bad, it's those people who produce the result - not the principle of "govt doing it". Please explain how a group of people in private realm differ from similar hired by govt.

First of all, government run insurance will have tons of bureaucrats who are not elected and will not be accountable during the next elections cycle.

Second of all, government run programs won't be allowed to fail with the use of tax payer dollars as subsidies. So there will be even less incentive to provide a better service at a lower cost.

Third of all, it's easier for the government to conceal the true cost when such subsidies come from an array of concealed taxes that citizens don't know of (IE: Sin taxes on cigarettes and alcohol, gas taxes, etc...) that get included in the price of goods and services.

If you think that only 30% of what you make goes to taxes, think again. Think about how much you pay in gas, cigarette, property, sales taxes etc... and then re-calculate.

are you saying the cost of the government bureacracy itself, nevermind the cost of the healthcare, would cost less than a private bureacracy.and if you believe that show me one instance in our current government that proves your point.

You have to look elsewhere for a fitting example: Canada. I live here and we've been doing it for 80 years. Private doctors and hospitals. Single-payer govt run insurance. If you need an example in the US Govt - the postal service. Runs with tons less overhead than private UPS, FedEx, etc. Ever wonder why a parcel ships for $15 for FedEx and only $5 for USPS? Besides, you already have single payer in the USA. Walter Reed comes to mind - and ask any patient if its "crappy" and doesn't work

By the way, fighting the "public option" would be like UPS, FedEx, Purolator, DHL running the show and raising their rates profusely for the last 50 years, and protesting AGAINST the creation of the US Postal Services. Think if USPS didn't exist and Obama was proposing the genius of having a public option shipping. The cons would call it crazy - on principle - and scream for keeping the private setup exclusive...just making new rules for them is all we need. Sound familiar?

and just like the post office, the public option will be unsustainable just like all other government programs.

Callhermaam: "would never go to Canada for healthcare, especially surgery or cancer treatment" Look, you need to get out and travel the world. I see the spook tactics being shoved down the USA's throat - and because 85% of you don't have passports, you're in a bubble. The cancer gene was DISCOVERED IN CANADA, silly. At our prestigious PMH, which is Canada's "Mayo Clinic"... it's HUGE, and it's totally non-profit. No charge to get care. Watch the Canadian TV commercial: v=mgahPK1YaTA
