QUIETUS: To The New World PT 2

Science Fiction apocalyptic film by filmmaker Richard Lowry evoking the style of the 'Dawn of Man' sequence in Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey', filmed on 35mm in Death Valley utilizing many of the same locations used to shoot 'Star Wars'. Entire production's cost was 8K, and no CG was used. All miniatures were photographed at high rez and animated in After Effects, employing the same visual effects methods Douglas Trumbull and Kubrick used in '2001'.

Effects are great homage to 2001. Love the color & scores, especially. But the purpose of aliens is confusing. Do they come down to salvage their 'fetal' remains in the 'cocoons'? (The interior of the wreckage is awesome as well, with some hindu-inspired symbols representing life-affirming 'lingas'). Nice transaction from suspensful music to the waltz-like music as the snow-shaped ships float over the hot, desert landscape,

The purpose of the aliens is a routine survey and study of the dead planet, unaware that there is any life. The chamber housing the pods is manmade, constructed during the time when Earth's demise was inevitable. The human fetuses are in hibernation; the hope is that one day intelligent life will discover the chamber and harvest the pods back to their world, where the human race will have a rebirth.

@Hawdkoah Back when movies like Silent Running, Dune and 2001 were made, there was a fascination and wonder associated with space travel, both near future and far future. The appeal of a space movie was that it took place in space, and cinema often focussed on that aspect. Nowadays it's all about explosions and laser fights, and alien monsters, while the atmospheric wonder is lost. People don't want to see possible futures anymore, they just want explosions and tits.
