Yes, this pedal has that ability to my ears, using the the env. sens. and the env. rate in the right way.

It sounds pretty good ! I was hoping you'd do half clean and then put on some distortion or overdrive. I've read this pedal has the rare ability to set a rate for the envelope that will interact with your attack and create a syncopated-type phase .
Maybe use that sweep button on the upper right??? thanks for the demo the other one on youtube is really clueless...

I had one for awhile. I thought the sound on the new one was a bit lacking, and I could never really find many uses for it. Later I got a Sovtek Small Stone and liked that a lot better. One thing I did really like with the new Polyphase was the slow envelope setting.
