You can't imaging Groningen if you live in America. In America, everyplace is eaten up by car everywhere. But in Groningen, you are left with a advanced speechlessness because All the people there really ride bicycles.

  • Your finger looks like a Frikandel

  • @MIDA4LIFE It's the glove that looks like a frikandel, not my actual finger :-)

  • The video is a bit misleading.

First of all it's just the city centre which is 'car free'. And only a small part, yet your video shows it like the entire city is car free which is not true.

There are only a handfull of streets off limits to civilian cars, but they are always filled with taxi's and busses.

  • @sjcsiba Well, This video is showing how shocking NOT having privately owned automobiles everywhere is for an American. To me, it appeared as if cars weren't allowed, but perhaps that is just different culture, in that folks in Groningen don't insist on taking a car everywhere, which dramatically impacts the way a city looks. It wasshocking for me, and appeared like cars were off-limits, which made for a very at-ease feeling :-)

  • Hey also check my bicycle vids from Groningen!

    You did a great job!

  • @MrReflus Hey thank you this is really nice to say, I'm so late thanking you. I miss Groningen so much!

  • If all cities of the world followed this example. We would have fitter people. less pollution. No demand for oil thus rendering wars invalid and out dated.

How I wish the world would be like my childrens birth place.

  • Thank you for watching my video. I always say, I miss Grongingen so much, and I do. I wish to live in the Netherlands, especially Groningen because of the freedom of bicycle. You are so fortunate to have a population that is NOT worshipping automobiles, like I suffer with herein America. Oh, how I miss the Netherlands

  • @pammyoneto We could have done this 10 years ago, we could have stopped the demand of oil 10 years ago, there are just some rich scumbags that wont let it happen for there own benefits

  • DUMPERT

  • @pammyoneto you just kinda described the netherlands. you don't even have to pay (road)taxes if you buy a full electric vehicle! only the insurance, which is mandatory for all powered vehicles, so if you get hit by a car there will be 0% chance of them not covering your medical bills. Also when a car and a bike get involved in a accident, the car is always to blame by law.... though that one can get nasty at times ~_~.

  • GRONINGEN YEEAHH BUDDY!!

  • Cool it is the Oude Ebbingestraat!

I am a German student living in Groningen and I must say I was confused as well by all those bicycles :)

  • @sjcsiba Vergeet niet dat dit voor menig amerikaan een hele ervaring is, zelfs buiten stadscentra waar veel fietspaden en stroken liggen: zij zijn dit gewoon niet gewend.

Don't forget that this is a pretty unusual sight for an average american, even outside the citycentres with bicyclepaths and lanes: they just aren't used to something like this.

  • Grunn... best city in the world.
