NORWAY'S BAND AND DRILL TEAM OF HIS MAJESTY THE KING'S GAURD

MAKING THEIR 2009 DEBUT AT THE NORFOLK SCOPE, 3RD COMPANY IS UNQUESTIONABLY THE NORWEGIAN DEFENSE FORCE'S FINEST DISPLAY UNIT. THIS PARADE UNIT IS ORGANAISED AS AN ORDINARY INFANTRY COMPANY DIVIDED INTO THREE SEPERATE PLATOON UNIUTS: MILITARY BAND, CEREMONIAL BAND, AND THE DRILL TEAM.

EVERY GAURDSMAN IS A NATIONAL SERVICEMAN, DOING 12 MONTHS OF COMPULSORY MILITARY SERVICE. THE COMPANY IS LEAD BY EIGHT INFANTRY OFFICERS, AND TWO PROFESSIONAL MILITARY MUSICIANS. THE PRESENT COMAPNY WAS CALLED UP IN OCTOBER 2008 ASND IMMEDIATELY STARTED BASIC TRAINING FOR THIS YEARS CEREMONIAL AND SHOW PERFORANCES. DURIN THE WINTER TIME BOITH BANDS GIVE CONCERTS AS WELL AS CEREMONIAL SUPPORT IN DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE FIRST OFFICAL PERFORMANCE TAKES PLACE IN APRIL, BUT THE MAIN FOCUS IS DIRECTED TOWARDS THE 17TH OF MAY, WHICH IS THE CONSTITUTION DAY OF NORWAY. FROM THEN UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST, THE COMPANY GIVES A GREAT NUMBER OF CONCERTS AND DRILL PERFORMANCES ALL OVER THE WORLD INCLUDING THE ROYAL NOVA SCOTIA TATTOO, EDINBURGH MILITARY TATTOO, SWEDISH ARMY TATTOO, AND OF COURSE, THE VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL TATTOO.

Why? They were really good. They aren't just a drill team. They represent the King of Norway and all of Norway around the world. What is wrong with that? They made me want to be a citizen of Norway.

I was very proud of them and they made me wish I was from Norway. I was very lucky to have stayed with them in the same barracks here on base. It was really great getting to know them and learning their lanquage. I got to see them perform at least three times while they were here.

Rett og rett...

Jeg dimma selv fra garden i slutten av juni, og kjenner et par stykker i som var i forrige drill/musikk-kont. De sa hvertfall at de ikke var det, og vi så de vel aldri spesielt mye i feltantrekk. Men igjen, nå har de jo begynt med gardesnor til M04, noe som ikke ble brukt mens vi var inne. Signal og musikk (?) blir jo rekrutert direkte, og gjennomgår jo ingen rekrutt. Men lykke til, dere har mye å nå opp til hva gjelder forrige kont ;)

@larshenrik91 Thats not right. We have the basic soldier training everyone in the norwegian military gets. And I'm in this years drill team, so I think I know this. BUT if it was war in Norway we're pretty much the last ones to get commanded to war.

They're actually not approved as infantrymen. So they're not really soldiers

@Blktailhunter53 .. a bit shortsighted wouldn't you say, this soldiers are all very active serving soldiers all over the world, they can bomb and shoot the hell out of you,the drill is what they do for fun,skill and discipline. One could also sit home with a sixpack in front of the tube or shoot grazing bears from 30 feet with a Barrett '50 just for good measure....uuuuh!? These guys do a good skillful promotional job for their country. Thank the Lord they don't have to be shooting all year...
