here i am using an ignition coil driven by a 555 and a 2n3055 (as i always do), to produce arcs inside a vase that a hose blows Argon gas into... That reduces the atm pressure somewhat and Argon helps the arcs get bigger

Argon will ionize at atmospheric pressure. Large plasma discharges can be drawn at atmospheric pressure in an aquarium full of Argon gas. Try it.

it does reduce pressure because it is flowing with high speed through the tube in the vase and back out but your other remarks are also true
