This is a big Northern Pike caught fly fishing in Northern Minnesota. 50lb. Ande mono was used as a leader to break the 50lb. tippet Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame catch and release world record. It was big enough we knew it broke it before we even measured it. This is dedicated to my friend Bill who found the fish and filmed this. We tried to edit very little from it, just enough to fit you tube time limits.

  • diverdan!

  • @isosexy123 Why yes! Yes it is me! Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone, I'm going incognito here.

  • Congrats on your pike - it's a really nice fish and interesting movie! What about your video with making a pike leaders? I'm really looking forward to watching it.

Tight lines and greetings from Poland!

  • @arhuku Thanks. I'll try and get that leader video done soon. By the way, how's the Pike fishing in Poland? I understand they get some really big ones in Europe.

  • @fishinwflies

Pike fishing is very popular in Poland but fishing for pikes on fly is still rare and not so common. Spinning method dominates and sometimes it's quite funny to see all these people that stare at you and they are very surprise, because they don't know fly fishing or they've only seen it on fishing magazines.

  • @arhuku Same thing here. The guy that did the camera here and I are the only ones fly fishing for anything here.

  • I got the certificate in the mail today. It's officially the record. The Ande line busted right where it should. That's why I use it. Good stuff.

  • I use 5 weight for pike, but the ones i catch on the fly are usually babies about 20 inches or bass XD

  • @StephM1982 I normally do use steel leaders, but I wasn't here. I wanted something that would break at exactly 50lbs. That's why the 50lb. Ande mono. You can use a 5 wt. on smaller fish but if you want to toss big flies for big fish you will need an 8 wt. or bigger rod. I use a 10 wt. I'm thinking about doing a video showing how to make Pike leaders.

  • @fishinwflies yeah that was probably the "dislike". I think the whole "like/disklike" is a bunch of crap anyway... just enjoy the video for what it's worth, ya know? I really want to try for some northerns around my area, but I've only got a 5wt trout rod. Do you use steel leaders for those pike?
