Always good to keep a geek chained up in the basement, they can be quite handy, especially when setting up a new wireless network or just troubleshooting regular diagnostic issues essential in the maintenance of your equipment.
Usually best a have a gimp too, to keep them company....

papa - when I had my computer business - that was the sound of money :) I would have had it going in the same day though.
e machines has been notorious for decades of making shoddy equipment. Back in '95 they had a barbie machine that tended to have its' power supply ignite into flames across the back of your wall. Rather disconcerting for some.

Yeah, when you have a noise like that it's probably a fan. At least you hope it is, otherwise it would be the hard drive and that's a lot more expensive to fix!

And all my friends wonder why I make so much money fixing computers ; )

@namnack I did - and it SOUNDED like it was coming from the processor fan. D'oh!

LOL!

Why not open the damn thing yourself? It's not like any component will jump out and bite you below the belt...
Fan problem! :( Silly computer techs ;)

Glad you had that fan fixed. Mine never made a peep when it went, but the loud capgun pops of the capacitors exploding on my video card sure did.

@Int0l3r4nc3 Oh man, that's painful just thinking about it!

We build our computers as a rule. We can identify these problems without any trouble.
It sounded like a fan was hitting something, perhaps a stray cable. You could have fixed it yourself using one of those automotive wire ties, probably. XD

@LeksServices Nah, the fan on the graphics card was wobbling like crazy. It still worked, just the noise drove me batshit.
