Two-headed marine turtle alive in Costa Rica

A newborn, two-headed Olive Ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) hatched from a natural nest in Ostional Beach in Costa Rica in November 2005. The turtle was kept for a few days under observation and was then released in good health into the Pacific ocean. The prospects of survival are unknown - if she is a female and survives the hazards of a life at sea with natural predators and indiscriminate nets and hooks, she may return to Ostional to nest in some 15 to 20 years. WWF, the global conservation organization, filmed this unusual creature and released the news to the media.

This "siamese twins" turtle almost certainly would not survive in the wild, as it would be unable to efficiently coordinate its actions/swimming to avoid predators - although it would probably do fine in captivity, assuming that its internal organs are functional.

At first I thought the turtle was quite large... then the comments pointed out the butt which i thought was a fat stick.

What I love most about this video is the cigarette butt the turtle is sitting on. In Hawaii the leading cause of death in Green sea turtles is Cigarette butts LEADING cause. One would think people who love hawaii so much they spend savings to visit, might just respect the place more.. NNaaahhh.. Smokers have little respect for anybody. Its part of the habbit of smokeing. Being a carless scumbag;)

That cigarette butt doesn't help things. The last I had checked, it's made by humans and it was a stupid human that left it there on the ground. Poor turtles eat the cigarette butts and eventually die from ingesting them and not being able to pass them through their digestive system.
