Engine makes pecking noise about 2-3 minutes after starting. Has been doing this since I purchased it 2 years ago. No issues that I can tell, just makes this annoying sound all the time.

  • also is it heavy on petrol?could be an injector

  • After checking online, I think it's just a typical VW engine noise. Although annoying, I can't find anything wrong that would cause it. Thanks for the comments!

  • Yes, it's a normal engine sound. The injectors make this kind of sound in all FSI engines that have direct injection. Check out these videos:

  • i think its the thin oil dealer recomends they say use 5 40 weight thats really thin viscosity, my car makes the same noise 2007 vw passat 2.0t, i loose about a 1 quart of oil between oil changes. dealer said its normal others say i could be the turbo seals. next oil change im going to do heavier oil like 10/30 or 10/40 and see if it quiets the motor.

  • i had the similar noise in my VW 2003 passat and dont know what to do with it.

i have recently bought this car and feels like shit when i hear that noise ..

if this is normal than it is ok but if it is not than let me know if someone has fix this and how much it cost them

  • @zacharyhocutthsm If more people would listen to me and use Amsoil from the very beginning, you won't get engine sludge. I've seen cars with Amsoil go anywhere between 300,000 to almost 1,000,000 miles and the engines are like a shiny new quarter inside. It's not in the dealer's best interest to sell you products to make your cars run perfect forever. That would be cannibalism. They need to sell you a new car every few years. Selling inferior oil helps them do this.

  • sounds just like my 08 passat.. ive talked to 5 different vw mechanics. all say its normal.. love driving this car.. hate spending money fixing its many issues.

  • check pcv valve....

  • My car does a very similar noise and its usually to lack of oil. The car consumes oil like no other. After conducting an oil consumption test, the dealer said that the Passat will consume one quart of oil for every 1000 miles and that is "normal".

I was never told that I was going to be held to this sub-par VW standards. This is BS and I am not taking it. I really want to sue VW for product liability and for not disclosing a known issue at the time of sale.

  • does anyone know how to remove the plastic engine cover?? please help

  • does anyone know how to remove the cover from the engine?? please help me
