03 July 2007 - WWII USAAF TSgt Richard Sargent's remains were DNA identified from a B-24 crash site in New Guinea. After 63 years MIA, Sargent's remains were flown into Cleveland Hopkins Airport (Ohio), then escorted to Girard, PA by various city and state police, military, as well as more than 100 motorcycle mounted Patriot Guard Riders. Fire and EMS crews, VFW's, Legionaires, and families lined bridges along I90, plus along the length of Rt20 from Conneaut Ohio, all the way through Girard.
I grew up in Lake City and I know the Sargent family. They are great people and I am happy that he received a hero's escort!!
