this is a 90v 15amp 4800rpm(i said 6800 in the video) motor.. i added 28 inch blades and have it about ten foot off the ground.. i dont think its ever going to do what i want without a gear system.. fun 20$ project.. great yard ornament.. might hook a car headlight up to it so it glows brighter the faster it spins.... comments are welcome

  • I put a 1 to 4 on mine, and the windmill only turns at high winds.

I finally purchased blades on ebay with hub, and I'll try 1 to 3 gears.

If that dosn't work, I'll completely loose any kind of faith in the treadmill motors.

My only other idea is to put a very large blade system on it, for more torque, and a 7-8 to 1 grar ratio on it... after that, I'll just buy a motor, and comment on every one of these.

so far, you cannot produce enough power to charge batteries with tm motors

  • have u put energy through it?

  • I had the same problem with my generator. Check my channel for the video if you want. I'm currently in the process of gearing it up to a 4:1 overdrive. I'll put up a video update when I get it together.

  • You could charge AA batteries (maybe 2-4 cells). Maybe go with 2s4p pack of Nimh cells for about 10 ah.

  • I think you could do better with some blades carved out of wood. Maybe a slightly smaller diameter also with 3 blades and you should be able to hit 12v. My treadmill windmill (posted as a video response), hits 12v at about 360 rpm, or 10-12 mph. I think you choose the wrong motor. Yours is probably 50 rpm/volt, and you need about 25 rpm/volt. Mine is 30rpm/volt.

  • Cool video, put u some leds on the generator and watch them glow

  • cool Im kinda foolin with some solar panels right now a cheap set from harbor freight tools but when I seen this video I thought about working on my wind power today I think these moters can work ok just geared up a lot thanx ill keep ya posted!

  • . i decided to move to a wind blue power alternator.. ill be interested to see what you come up with

  • i got the same size motor and want to gear it up to do the same. cool video man!
