Photoshop & Sony Vegas Pro Make Logo for Video Watermark/Bug

hi im using photoshop cs5, i have already done this a million times already but lately it hasnt been working out for me, i have reset my preferences and clicked everything you did but when i look at the layers thing my shape is white instead of black... and the same goes for my text, the background is grey in the layers panel. please help i need this asap. thanks

Nice job. I use Adobe Premiere Elements (bundled with Photoshop Elements) but the principles are the same. I was stymied by the transparency part until I saw this. Thanks so much!
