Why would any true fan dislike this? Sell out? These guys still make genuine heart-felt music and if they can commercialize off of it, well good for them. I for one will keep supporting them as long as I hear the passion and emotion in their music.

The Avett Brothers didn't refer anyone to a song... That did not happen. While I agree with your sentiment, don't say the band referred people to a song when they didn't. I would say they literally said it in Salvation Song "If it compromises truth then we will go." They're still making music for the right reasons and their sound has literally come full circle. Listen to their first recordings and the Darling records. They're making music they've been making.

They said it in Salvation Song when they said "And they may pay us off in fame, but that is not why we came..."
Maybe not originally, but its hard to believe that line when they are pushing the same jeans Lil' Buck is pushing. The whole "dirt road farm boy" sound is lost. I love the Avetts old records, I grew up close to Concord NC myself, will always be a fan of those old tunes. But the new shit now is basically Kings of Leon with a banjo.
