Uncle Steve was my Godfather. The reason he didn't become Middle Weight champ was that right after Pearl Harbor, when he was ranked No1 contender, he enlisted in the Navy and stayed in for the duration of the war. When he got out he was still the top contender but Jake LaMotta got the title shot. He had to fight Sugar Ray Robinson to get his shot. Robinson beat him and then beat Jake. He stayed in the Navy Reserve trained young sailors and raised a family my four cousins. He really was a champ.
