A find of recent weeks was this suprising version of the French standard "Seule ce soir" (All alone tonight) which became an instant hit in 1941. Originally sung by the French female crooner Léo Marjane it spoke to all those who had been separated by their loved ones by the wartime events... The song was reoorded by many other artists, even by male singers (as "Seul ce soir" - these versions are very rare).
This is a very hot "harmonica swing" version by Dany Kane and his orchestra. Unfortunately I was unable to find more information on him.... Any aditionnal info always welcome.
The video shows Léo Marjane, the original singer; sheet music of "Seul ce soir"; records of Leo Marjane and Assia de Busny (who recorded the song for Columbia), images of bombing, France during the war; French prisoners of war returning home (images made by the Vichy government) .
I only recently bought the sheet music. I was rather surprised to find the lyrics in both French and German (German title : Bin allein, allein!). This was usually only the case with German songs from movies which had been translated into French.
About the record :
Decca 9051 /mx. ST.724
The record produces a lot of surface noise (quite common for a wartime Decca pressing)
Transferred without modification.
Sound equipment used :
Ortophon om78 Cartridge & Stylus
Turntable : Stanton T.90
TerraTec 78RPM Phono Pre-amp
After processing, this video will also be offered in HD.
However whether this function works will depend on your Internet connection and the abilities of your computer (your screen may freeze).
After uploading it will take some time for the image to be fully processed (and become sharp)
Que buena música!

Une version qui fait très "far west".. sans doute l'harmonica! Merci, c'est très intéressant à entendre.
