and people need to learn how to have a bit of respect. this was recorded like 20 years ago. technique has come a long way since then, but the majority of professional dancers today have a thing or 2 to learn about performance quality. i mean, somebody was putting down baryshnikov in some other video. it's ridiculous. these dancers paved the way for ballet. they helped develop it into what it is today. respect should be given where it's due.

and at least she has a personality. not like some flexi machine. she just lights up the stage. everybody's so caught up in technique, it's said. ballet is not a circus where the dancers are supposed to perform tricks. people are so caught up in whose technique is better. but basically every dancer nowadays has serious over-split but only a tiny of fraction of them can really perform and exude that aura that many dancers in the past have. christine walsh is gorgeous. she IS aurora

i love christine walsh! she's so bright and charming. Stunning stage presence and energy.
can i just point out, BALLET ISN'T A BLOODY FREAK SHOW. it is not about how high you can get your legs. if you're going to get your legs behind your head, there needs to be a reason why you do it, not just because you can. it needs to be part of your interpretation. nowadays, it seems that people can get away with a COMPLETE absence of artistry because there legs are at some freakish angle. it's not right.

@ courtneysara what are you talking about ! Nearly every ballerina does that
-
@mcrBallerina maybe she won't put you on because you can't even spell 'en pointe'. Your teacher knows best, I didn't start pointe until age 15.
-
@pattersonjk just like Margot Fonteyn, she had enough grace and poise to distract from that
-
She's fantastic! and what makes her amazing is her acting!
-
@mcrBallerina Excuse me little missy! But you don't deserve to be put en pointe if you are messing around like that. The problem might not be strength it could probably be lack of technique, or the fact you are still growing. Dance teachers know best!!! Just remember that!

which year is???
i think it's unfortunate that a lot of ballet watchers quickly become disinterested if someone doesn't have amazing extensions, turnout, and feet. while i certainly appreciate these things, just like everyone else, i also appreciate dancers who can be very charming without them. and this lady is very charming indeed. i think her port de bras is stunning and tended to distract from the shortcomings of her lower body.

She is a very engaging Aurora! And she built her performance nicely. Starting with relatively low developpe turns. Later, very respectable penche arabesque. And then at the end, her extension was nice and high. Not as high as Balanchine would have liked--- where the ballerinas regularly displace their hips to kick their ears. Except in rare works of his, I always found that sort of thing vulgar. Stylistically, this young lady was very fine and of the highest order of good taste.
