Here we have, side by side, two of Mesa/Boogie's most popular 4x12 cabinets, the 4x12 Stiletto and 4x12 Rectifier. These cabinets have the same speakers, but physically are built differently. They each have a unique voice, and we hope this video helps you decide which cabinet is best suited for you.

We used a Dual Rectifier head set exactly the same for both cabinets, and we placed a Royer R121 ribbon microphone several feet in front of the cabinet. The Royer is a very natural sounding mic, and it accurately captures the sound you hear when standing in front of these two cabinets.

  • whats the song that he played on the modern channel comparison???

  • @guitarramaniacx John Petrucci's Damage Control :-)

  • Beautiful Les Paul, can you tell what model is it?

  • @stefinothrashcore Classic antique... again, heavily modified. :-)

  • What makes the two sound different if they have the same speakers? Are they made with different woods? I personally like the stiletto better.

  • @SuperGuitarMark Same speakers and same woods. What is different is the construction and physical size of the cabinets, and that gives each one a different voicing.

  • Gear 08 dual rec, kkv emg 81/85 zws, it got cut off on my first post i play alittle metal variations nothing to crazy, rock, clean chorusy delay stuff, so this is why its hard to choose.

  • And i forgot to mention whats the sifference between looseness of the rectifier cab and tightniss of the traditional cab/ stiletto? Thank you.

  • Say guys im contomplating the mesa traditional rectifier (stiletto cab), or the rectifier. I hear the rectifiers more looose, and The trafitional is more tight also the stiletto sounds warmer. Ive tried the stiletto cab boy does it sound great clean and distorted. it was an angled cab btw. And then i tried the rectifier strait i liked it to for the power yet at high volumes i knoticed a difference between both cabs. Im stumpt on whick one i should get they are alot of money and i use a 2008 d

  • Stiletto´s seems punchier and fat. For my kind of sound, and the conception i have about Mesa, it´s more adequate.

  • clean i prefer the recto tough.

  • stiletto has more mids. i'd take that one. also i think that the recto cab pronounces the top-end fuzz of the recto head too much.

  • great video. it sounds like the tonal differences become more apparent in each of the cabinets in higher gain/distortion settings. The stiletto cabinet seems to have a narrower range band and has a tighter more focused tonal spectrum. The recto cab sounds more airy, spacial and offers more room on its tonal palate. I have two recto 4x12 and a 2x12 cab, and listening to the tones on this video confirm the recto's tonal characteristics. I also have a tremoverb head and stiletto trident.

  • Fantastically informative video here. I'm personally a big fan of the Stiletto, been planning on getting one for a while (but college students lack adequate funding much of the time).

  • I played a rectifier for years and always liked it but after hearing this I would say the stiletto sounds even better.

  • Stiletto!
