European Foreign ministers on Monday agreed on an oil embargo against Iran amid fears that Iran's government is developing nuclear weapons. The sanctions could go into effect as early as next week. EU member states who already have oil contracts with Iran, such as Greece, will have 5 months to fulfill them.

The ministers also agreed extra restrictive measures on the country's central bank. EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said the sanctions want to persuade Iran to go back to the negotiating table.

Because of the sanctions Tehran is threatening western countries with blocking the access to the Persian Gulf. Swedish Foreign Carl Bildt said he believes that "sanctions alone" are not the answer.

Europe is Iran's second largest trading partner, accounting for 20% of its oil exports. But as China is their biggest customer, analysts think the embargo won't destroy Iran's economy. The U.S and the European Union want Asian countries also to join the embargo.

  • @arsacesofconcobar, I will make a poll on you tube and we will sort out this mess out, forward to the cheap world called progress my friend

  • @Robertdub2006 Where do I sign up?

  • @blech143 Who gives a shit about troops? Troops are supposed to die. Did you spill any tears to any Iraqi soldiers that you massacred with rounds of depleted uranium? This hypocrisy is sickening.

It's one thing for Japan to literally rape Nanjing and kill hundreds of thousands of people with thousands of troops over the span of several days. It's another to drop a single bomb over civilians and cause an inferno over their heads in the matter of seconds.

  • @deathtoll206 Not true at all. The MAD-doctrine applies at all times. If Iran would be to acquire a nuke, it would simply be for deterrence, because you know, unless you've been sleeping under a rock for the last decade, America has Iran surrounded.

If Iran launches such a nuke preemptively, even an idiot would figure out that the retaliatory strike would be ridiculously devastating. Iran is a sovereign nation, so quit the castigating and read a book for once.

  • @arsacesofconcobar every country in the EU, Canada, America, any many others agree that the religious views of the Iranian government will make them unresistant to launching a nuke. US used a nuke yes but before the ban on nuclear weapons. i don't think they are exempt from basic survival.

they way their government acts isn't exactly friendly or understanding.

  • We will block oil exports first,

It's the matter of days, wait and see

When you go to gas station next weak remember me ;D

  • Hell yeah! FUCK IRAN!!!
