abusers don't actually care about their victim's wellbeing at all, only if the victim is under their complete control. they don't register them as fellow people. they care about have them as possessions, servicing some need. when that possession tries to assert it's independence and personhood, abusers freak out and try to smack it into obedience. That is all they *care* about, power. If anyone *cared strongly* for another human, guess what? they wouldn't intentionally hurt them.
