Image with audio. A track from Nightclub , just about my favourite jazz album of the last ten years or so. It surprises me she's not more well known, a fine singer and wonderfully subtle pianist.
OOOHHHHH MYYYYY..............................GOODNESS!!!! This the 6th video I've just watched because of another person telling me there was a "Patricia Berber" that is much better then who I wrote about! Who to me is THE BEST jazz female vocalist from Vanvouver.
I have to say, I am totally amazed and love what I have been hearing! PB has a whole different style! Very sexy voice, great piano playing, and her backup is AMAZING! So I agree! But it's overpowering, NEED TO TAKE A BREAK! WOW!
@29dsk2u : Kaper was classically trained in Poland then fled the mess in Europe and settled in Hollywood. I do agree that it is cut from the same melodic cloth as Laura.
Wonderful! I will look to purchase Patricia Barber's offerings soon! I look forward to hearing more of this talented lady's work. I was searching for the instrumental version by Acker Bilk, which I own on an LP, but no luck. I really must get all my LPs and VHS videos and cassette tapes out of storage and turn them into digital media!
This is one of the most interesting and unusual pop song melodies ever written. It was composed by a violinist and composer named Bronislaw Kaper and was featured in an old movie named Invitation. It is haunting in somewhat the same way that Johnny Mercer's Laura is haunting.
Thanks for this normanfletcher. I completely agree that Nightclub still counts as one of the best recordings of standards in many years. Why isn't Barber better known; is a really good question.
Just a new and wonderful discovery for me. Thaks!!!!!!!

@29dsk2u I forgot to add in the comment above that this wonderful piece is also the theme song in Lana Turner's A Life of Her Own. --Lloyd Kropp
