TURN ON ANNOTATIONS

A RPG (Role Playing Game), this is the second generation of the Pokémon franchise which includes Gold, Silver, and Emerald. Players are able to play the new Johto region along with the previous Kanto region after beating the Elite 4 for the first time.
The second generation of Pokémon video games began in 2000 with the release of Pokémon Gold and Silver for Game Boy Color. Like the previous generation, an enhanced remake titled Pokémon Crystal was later released. It introduced 100 new species of Pokémon (starting with Chikorita and ending with Celebi), for a total of 251 Pokémon to collect, train, and battle. New gameplay features include a day-and-night system (reflecting the time of the day in the real world) which influences events in the game; full use of the Game Boy Color's color palette; an improved interface and upgraded inventory system; better balance in the collection of Pokémon and their moves, statistics and equippable items (a new addition); Pokémon breeding; a new region named Johto and the ability to select the protagonist's gender. Unique to the second generation games is the fact that, after exploring Johto, the player can enter and explore the original Kanto region, which lies to the east of Johto.

As of May 8th, 2009 a 10th anniversary remake of Gold, Silver, and Crystal will be released as Heart Gold and Soul Silver. It will be released in Japan late 2009 and the rest in 2010.

This video will show what is played when the main character is on Route 32, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 45, and 46.

Route 32, unlike the route before it, is a long, trainer-heavy route leading directly south from Violet City and ending at the mouth of Union Cave.

Route 34 is a final trek after the long way through Ilex Forest. Route 34 is also where the first ever Day Care in which Pokémon can breed is located.

Route 35 lies just north of Goldenrod City, leading straight from there to Johto's famous National Park, home of the Bug Catching Contest.

Route 36 is a north-south, as well as an east-west route located in central Johto. Its northern terminus is at Route 37 south of Ecruteak City, its southern and western termini are at Route 35 and the National Park, respectively, and its eastern terminus is at Violet City. It is the only route in the Pokémon world to have five different junctions (the fifth being the Ruins of Alph's north entrance).

Route 37 is the shortest route within the region. However, even for the smallest of routes, it has three Apricorn trees and several trainers. The north exit leads to Ecruteak City.

Route 40 is a route in Johto and the first water route trainers from New Bark Town come in contact with. It connects Olivine City and Route 41 (Whirl Islands), eventually to Cianwood City.

Route 45 is a route in the mountains of Johto. It can only be entered from the northern terminus, as the steep ledges that one can jump over make traveling northward towards Blackthorn City impossible.

Route 46 is the south extension of Route 45. It connects to Route 29 to the south.
