BBC Scotland Documentary - Neil Oliver continues his journey through Scotland's past with the story of the Covenanters, whose profound religious beliefs were declared in the National Covenant of 1638. This document licensed revolution, started the Civil War that cost King Charles I his head, cost tens of thousands of Scots their lives and led to Britain's first war on terror.

  • @kapkone Well technically...but he did!

  • @Felegund7 you can't!, it's a bird colony...but you can take a boat out around the rock

  • Ah, the bass rock! I've always wanted to sail there and climb to the top, even though I live in the U.S. But I'll be there in the fall and can't wait.

  • I really need to use the subtitles for this documentary despite the fact I know english

  • Why do they touch historical documents with bare hands??? They should know better!

  • History proves that in every attempt made during the past half century against the liberal progress of mankind, the Jesuit Order, as the leader of Catholic action, has played a decisive role. We can go even so far as to state that Nazi-Fascism had its origin in the Society of Jesus, and that, like other movements in the past analogous to Fascism today, it was planned to serve the traditional aims of the disciples of Ignatius Loyola.-page 1, Behind the Dictators by Leo Lehmann.

  • "I learned much from the Order of the Jesuits", said Hitler... "Until now, there has never been anything more grandiose, on the earth, than the hierarchical organization of the Catholic Church. I transferred much of this organization into my own party."

  • With the invention of the internet the information is all there for anyone with eyes to see it. There's no excuse for comments saying Nazism was founded on Christian principles. Everything about Roman Catholicism is pagan and if you read The Two Babylons you'll be left in no doubt. Hitler wasn't a Christian. He was a pagan Roman Catholic.

  • To say Hitler "founded the Third Reich on Christian principles" is utter nonsense. Hitler wasn't a Bible-believing Christian. He was a Romanist all of his days. Protestantism is "revived Christianity". Read Alexander Hislop's classic The Two Babylons. Popery/Babylonian Romanism is Antichristianism. Hitler was put in power by the Vatican who signed a Concordat with the Nazi's and Hitler was serving his Jesuit masters from day one. Father Bernhard Staempflewrote Mein Kampf for him.

  • @dragonforks93 Some Priests in southern Germany were killed because they wouldn't acknowledge the Pope's infallibility or go along with the Third Reich. Hitler was a fanatical Austrian papist used by the Jesuits to destroy Protestant Germany. Stalin was trained by the Jesuits in Tiflis Orthodox Seminary, Georgia. Hitler and Stalin were working together. It was the Inquisition against Jews, Lutherans, Calvinists, and Orthodox Slavs. They don't teach you that on the Jesuits History Channel.

  • @dragonforks93 in that case I guess we're on the same page.

  • @ronronronronrooooon Obviously I'm not saying that Hitler was a "good christian" because he was a mass murderer, even though in Old Testament God killed more people that Satan did, but that isn't my point. Technically he was a Christian and he believed he was doing God's work, even though in private he viewed Christianity as a religion only fit for slaves and criticized it for its teaching and only admired it for its ability to control people.

  • @dragonforks93 not really. By accounts of those closest to him and even from his own accounts, Hitler was not a religious man. He abused the Catholic church in his lands and twisted the Protestant church into something tailor-made to support him and jailed even Protestant dissidents. The idea that Jews were an inferior race did stem in part from old religious biases (pogroms from the 13th cen. on) but in Hitler's case this was not the real motivation.

  • @dragonforks93 Btw Hitler and the Third Reich were founded on Christian principles, Hitler genuinely believed that what he was doing was what God wanted him to do, the holocaust was an attack against the jew population because hitler saw them as evil creatures that are less than human.

  • @dragonforks93 Not to mention more modern wars such as the Irish Republican Army and Al Queda which are still going on today, no that does not make atheist killings justified, atheists who kill are simply evil people, just as christians, muslims etc who kill are also evil people, not matter what faith you are from, you should know that killing is wrong, if one doesn't see that then that individual is obviously a disconnected person.

  • @Albertanator Yes, I am not denying there have been atheist inspired wars, but remember that atheism is a relatively recent thing, a hundred or so years ago if someone declared that they didn't believed in god, they would have been burned at the stake or hung or beheaded as a "heretic". Religion however is thousands of years old and is responisble for far more attrocities that atheism, The Crusades, Thirty years war, Spanish inquisition for example... Continued...

  • @Patrickf1916 Who are you?

  • @dragonforks93 Actually Jesus never said to tolerate untruth.....read the Greek Bible for yourself....John 14.6.......and I wouldn't talk about religious wars compared to athiestic inspired wars by the Marxists and Nazis in the last hundred years is responsible for over 100 million deaths....

  • @TheTaiginator "YOU'RE" A WANKER

  • @ProtestantThomas How did you know?

  • @Patrickf1916 You shouldn't even be on this video as you aren't even from Scotland.

You are living in a delusion of religious variation, love to see Catholic Irish paedophile faces who belief in their shit revisionist religion.

    Presbyterianism is the Scottish religion.

  • @TheFatalInstinct1

cant have a church without eucharist. id love 2 see prods faces when they die and stand in front of christ. not john knox not martin luther. they wish they didnt slag the pope then

  • @Patrickf1916 Vile Shite stinking Sassenach cunts.

  • @puffin51 He only managed to subjugate Wales, he failed everywhere else, especially in Scotland.

Scotland were one of England's toughest foes along with the French.

  • @Hazelden321 Yes probably because England actually stole from so many around the world and leeched other nations wealth, it would be such an insult to many because of that I think.
