Burnley Building Society

This record was issued free to savers by the Burnley Building Society at the back-end of the seventies and early eighties. The song was played on television and cinema advertising campaigns in that period. Sung by George Chandler, the lyrics were co-written by none other than Salmon Rushdie before he was famous. the Burnley merged with the Provincial Building Society and the name dropped, being known as the National and Provincial. The N&P later merged with the Abbey building Society and dropped its mutual status, becoming a bank and part of the Santandar Group. The Burnley's former head office and training centre is now owned by the local council as their administrative and contact centre.
