The SEPTA Reading Main Line's normally busy 16th St Junction where the R6 Norristown Line diverges from the 4-track trunk line on the day after the Boxing Day Blizzard of 2010. While Monday the 27th was clear and sunny, bitter cold and strong winds made clearing the snow a challenge and the field of double slip switches at 16TH ST were completely frozen over.
SEPTA was running a special snow plan that ran all R6 trains on a dedicated Track 4 which allowed the dispatchers to straight rail tracks 1,2 and 3 and only have to keep one normal turnout at 16TH ST available for service. The facing point turnout on the R6 tracks would be reversed to require only a single static route through the double slips.
