On Dec/2/2006 I saw a bright sundog and filmed it with my Panasonic Lumix digital photo camera. This is the start of a series about the types of atomspheric halos. However it can take some time until I see the next good halo display.

  • Is that a common occurrence?

  • Yes, it is quite common. It can be seen on about 4 days a month. But you must know where an when to look. Look for it when Cirrus clouds are present and the sun's elevation is low. Sundogs have the same elevation as the sun, but in a distance of 22 degress left and right from the sun.
