I REALLY hated that Katara had to be the one to finish her. Zuko deserved it more than any other character in the series.

I suspect that Azula's ability to still generate lightning despite her instability toward the end may stem from a near complete lack of conscience, resulting in the almost total absence of typical emotions such as remorse; circumventing the need to "balance the emotions" as a prerequisite to lightningbending. The story writers for the show stated that they wanted as much as possible to portray Azula as a 'moderate to severe sociopath', which may give credence to the idea that she doesn't need
