Jakarta is sinking by 4 to 6cm every year. Many of the city's flood channels are clogged with rubbish. Add to that deforestation and the development of expensive villas for affluent Jakartans and the result is that when the heavy rains come the water simply has nowhere to go.

Exactly what I'm thinking for a LONG time, Teddybear1968 :-/ Unfortunately enough, that might be the case. :-(

very true.Indonesia virtually fed the dutch with food and spices for 350 years. dutch only colony was the dutch east indies, they could live just by colonizing indonesia...instead of educating us, we had to fought countless amount of battles.

Dutch has never been helpful to Indonesia not like British towards Malaysia and Singapore :)
so why should we ask dutch help while they should offer us help instead of we ask them, they owe us a lot ...

Is the sinking of Jakarta unavoidable? If Jakarta keep sinking and eventually many of its area under water, then why Indonesian and business people still keeps building more in Jakarta as if nothing is happening???

sememangnya mgkin kerana pemanasan global ya....
ozon di hemisphera utara n selatan dh semakin nipis...ais dh mula cair...kalau berterusan begini...negara yg berdataran rendah pasti tenggelam...=.=
