@baker70romeo It doesn't look like it from the way the bolt & firing pin are dirty. I could be wrong.

I think he means Armed Forces Korea. If he's talking to me, I haven't lived in Korea since 2001, when I lived in Pyongtaek City.

i read somewhere that the k1 fires 5.6 rounds, so how much powerful is that compared to an smg that fires off .45 acp or 9 mm?

@98765432123456789000 A good layman's guide is to look at the cartridges (and the amount of propellant they contain), the weight of the bullets they fire, and the range to the target. In a carbine-length barrel, the pistol cartridges would already be slowing down before they leave the barrel, while the smaller 5.56mm is still accelerating. That balance of speed and bullet weight is a complex dance further complicated by bullet shape. (to be Continued)

@98765432123456789000 If all bullets are Full Metal Jacket, the .45 will dump most of its energy into the target because it's the heaviest and widest. 5.56 and 9-mm will zip through the body, and only increase damage, in the case if 5.56, by tumbling because of its long shape, or bouncing off of hard bone structure into a longer wound channel. @98765432123456789000 Now, at longer ranges, the .45 has a rainbow arc, the 9-mm flatter, and the 5.56 flattest. Hitting something a longer range, the slower .45 and lighter 9-mm might fail to deliver fatal energy, while the 5.56 can spear through the target. The 5.56 is already criticized for not delivering a kill shot at the ranges a 7.62 NATO round can. So you see, it's kind of complicated.

@cowboyblob wow, thanks for the replies, so pritty much that k1 is like an compact rifle/smg like the ak-74u or mp7 i guess. and im not sure about this one, but i was watching the discovery channel and i remember seeing that the 5.56 rounds not only tumble inside the human flesh, but always breaks into pieces onces inside the human flesh. probably because the tip of the 5.56 is much, Much lighter than the end.

@98765432123456789000 More like a straight-up AK-74 or M-4 Carbine... because of the 16-inch barrel. The Koreans might have a shorter one, but that's just wasted powder lighting up. A SMG fires a pistol-caliber round, which is what makes it a sub-machine gun. So if it's got a 12-inch barrel, it's like the AK-74u or MP7, correct.
