  • Paris France have had rubber wheeled trains since the early to mid 50s, their advantages far outweigh their disadvantages. They are an absolute joy to ride on, more trains can be run because of their shorter breaking distance, they climb steeper grades there is much less noise & vibrationThey can be switched to steel rails as well. This makes them a little more expensive to build

  • They keep switching the door closing chime when they tested. First it was 4 beeps, now it's an ascending chime. Most still don't use it though.

  • I definitely think that the combination of the rubber tires and the sound it makes when it takes off are the two best things about the Montréal metro.

  • @comuna15 At the time, the mayor of MTL decided to put the metro on rubber-tired wheels because of the smoothness and it was possible because it was all underground.

  • Can ayone tell me why does the subway has a kind of tires... i saw that in Paris too...

  • the cool sound is explained on the wikipedia page. everyone LOVES it

  • Dunno what idiot gave you a thumbs down. This is pretty interesting.

  • the most amazing thing i ever saw
