Grupo Cimarrón is an all-star team of instrumentalists and singers from Colombia. Here they perform Pajarillo at the 2009 Smithsonian Folklife Festival as part of the Las Américas program on the National Mall in Washington DC.

Smithsonian Folkways is excited to announce the July 26th release of '¡CIMARRÓN! JOROPO MUSIC FROM THE PLAINS OF COLOMBIA', by the Grammy-nominated Colombian ensemble Grupo Cimarrón. The fast-paced, explosive música llanera (plains music) played by the ensemble is some the most exciting music to come from Latin America. Through their powerful, moody, and unbridled sound, they live up to the meaning of their name Cimarrón- the wild bull.

Grupo Cimarrón will be performing free at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on July 2nd on the National Mall in Washington, DC. This is the group's third performance at the Smithsonian Folklife festival. The 2011 performance is part of a 10-day program "Colombia: The Nature of Culture".
