I think we'll end up joining eventually, what does it matter to your life if the pieces of paper in your pocket have Pounds Sterling or Euro written on them?

Well considering they have $ on them, I would say nothing at all. That wasn't my point anyway. The point was the guy resigned 20 years ago over something that still hasn't taken place.

It wont go away though, the BRIC countries will make a huge difference to the global economy, the relevance of the pound and the City of London as a major financial centre.

Not really, she treated him like dirt. And the issue was Europe more widely, not just the single currency. Given that by this stage the woman was totally unhinged, he did us all a favour. Poll tax anyone?

hindsight is a wonderful thing. Thatcher rejecting the Exchange Rate Mechanism was ridiculously Euroskeptic and her cutting down of the Delors proposals in her Bruges speech was rejecting any move towards a common market and limiting the UK's role

If anyone deserved to be ousted out of their position it's Mr Brown, She got this country back on it's economic feet. I remember being a little boy in the 1970's petrified in the knowledge that lights were destined to go out again and me and my brother were had to sit in the cold and darkness !! Yeah thanks for that Labour !!
