I agree with most of everything you guys said, but the last scene was absolutely hilarious, with Curly doing a flip with some sand coming out of his belt?? Wow that killed me.

Of course not every short is a masterpiece, and I would agree HORSES COLLARS is one of the weaker Curly shorts. Still, it has some redeemable qualities. I thought you guys were too hard on this one because you ranked it the way I would rank say, Horsing Around. Curly's "Moe, Larry, the Cheese" bit is classic and iconic even, I don't know how his performance can be a 1 with that bit thrown in. Besides, who doesn't enjoy a good celery fight every once in a while? : - )

I like this short for some reason, one scene they are all dressed up as Sherlock Holmes garb and the rest of the short they are dressed like cowboys. Maybe the only reason I like it is because the whole, "Moe, Larry, the cheese" bit. Also this was the early 1930s and most comedies were slow paced for some reason I guess because sound movies were new.
It really is not one of my favorite shorts either, but I have to agree with Metaldams; save this kind of harshness for a sick Curly or the worst of the Joe Besser shorts. Maybe even a 'Fake Shemp' short.
I would give Curly 2 here, mainly for the classic "Moe, Larry, the cheese!" line. Even though the rest of the dialogue is not all that good, that line is quite memorable.

Ha! "Fake Shemp short" that's a good one. Hey, we love the Stooges, but we're not going to give charity points around here :) The Three Stooges have made enough wonderful films that we can pan the lesser ones and still be proud Stooge fans!
Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Don't know how Curly can get a 1 in the "Moe, Larry, the cheese," short. That's some classic stuff. The whole fake eye lid sight gag where they pretend to stay awake is a nice touch at the beginning as well. I admit this one's not a classic, but my God, this kind of review should be reserved for a sick Curly short or one of the Joe Besser horse epics. Still enjoying the series, even when we don't agree.

OK,but the fact is that Curly is not sick and Joe Besser certainly didn't have anything to do with it :) Yet it remains (in my opinion) one of the least entertaining Stooge films of all time, trumped in it's sloppiness and lack of comedy only by Restless Knights (so far). I love the Stooges, but if I thought every Columbia short was a masterpiece, I wouldn't see the point in reviewing them.
Don't take this response the wrong way, we shouldn't expect to agree about everything, right?
