  • Another piece of Pguni's music that Petipa added to "Satanella" was a dance composed for the ballerina Praskovia Lebedeva in 1866. Petipa later added it to "Le Corsaire" in 1868 & called it "Finesse d'amour". If you are familiar with ABT's horrific production of "Le Corsaire", its the dance from act I where Medora flirts with the Pasha.

  • HISTORY - This pas was added to the ballet "Le Diable amoureux" (known in Russia as "Satanella") by Petipa to music by Cesare Pugni in 1859. It was added especially for the ballerina Amalia Ferraris.

In Imperial times the pas was known as "Le Carnaval de Venise - La fascination", though today - mostly outside of Russia - it is called the "Satanella PDD".

The reason it is called "Le Carnaval de Venise" was because Pugni based the music on Paganini's violin piece "Carnevale di Venezia".
