This drill will show you if you are properly gripping the club and taking it back on the correct swing plane.

  • that's a bit closed

  • @badgolfer997 it's more of a grip check drill rather then the proper position of the club face in the backswing. The angle of the club face should be the same angle of the spine half way back in the swing.....no?

  • so cool !!

  • @badgolfer997 Agree. That's closed. Probably somewhere between there, and toe pointed straight up is square.

  • I think you mean, once you take the LEFT hand off of the club, if you take the right hand off, you'd be holding it with you're left hand.

  • @shortgame23 Not really. Let's say your spine angle was 30-45 degrees, the club face would be at 25 degrees (dtl view). By the time the clubhead gets up to your shoulder level, the club face angle is pointing straight up. So it does need to gradually open on takeaway to be square, otherwise if you continued on your upswing you'll likely be in a shut position at top. However... some pga tour guys have a closed face at midpoint like luke donald.
