Georgy Pavlovich Vinogradov (Георгий Павлович Виноградов) sings "Whither", the second song of Franz Schubert's "Die schöne Müllerin" (Beautiful Miller's Wife), written in 1823. The songs were originally a poem by Wilhelm Müller, and here they are translated into Russian by I.Tyumenev. The recording was probably made in Moscow in around 1951.
THIS IS SONG NO. 2 OF A TRAGIC LOVE STORY IN 20 SONGS, HERE:

TO FOLLOW THE STORY, READ POTTED WORDAGE BELOW. (Like our greenhorn hero, the brook is newborn out of the rock, and they'll travel together. But you can hear the waterwheel-paddles in the accompaniment as deep, dark notes below the rippling brook and the singer's happy voice: is this forewarning us of something?)
Potted wordage #2:
A brook rushes out of the rock . . . so I follow it . . . I think I can hear water-nymphs singing, and millwheels turning in the brook . . .
Location: Thornwick Bay, Yorkshire, England, October 2009.
Another rapturous, poetic Vinogradov
posting sung with inner intensity and
radiant beauty. Vinogradov's silky
legato and breathtaking technique
are but tools to reveal every nuance
of Schubert's magnificent romantic
song cycle. Thank you for the blessing!
