How did Jay Bybee breeze through a confirmation hearing for his appointment to the Federal Appeals Court in February 2003? Not a single Democrat questioned Bybee at the session, and the proceedings came to a quick conclusion. The following month he was confirmed by the full Senate.
Just six months prior to the hearing, Jay Bybee had signed legal memos providing cover for CIA agents torturing detainees -- yet Congress voted him to a lifetime on the federal bench. How did this happen? And what will become of Judge Bybee now?

  • Let's put Bybee through what he describes as not torture, and see if he changes his mind.

May be just one screw through the thumb will do the job.

  • How did Bybee conduct his studies to determine how much pain was torture?

Maybe he just used studies conducted by others: nazis, fascists, serial killers... Shouldn't we learn from the past - about where to draw the line? Do you know how much pain you can inflict on someone before it's considered torture?

  • @MengersDisciple: He didn't say he supported the interrogation tactics, only that they were legal under the law as it now stands. Try reading up and educating yourself before throwing out comments like that. Jay is my uncle and is one of the best men I know!

  • Amen, Bybee and Yoo should be hung!

  • this fucker needs to go. by torture, preferably. failing that, just bar him from government.

  • it looks like bybee needs to be be thoroughly investigated along with all the other alleged perps

all of congress & senate should be well prepared & found fit for the job [to serve] no more than 1 term in office limited to just 1 election cycle

  • to answer your question at the end of clip description - he is fucked. And that is a good thing.
