  • how do you call the person that sings that type of music..and what is the instrument that they use called?

  • @Kaneuchiha666 The name of the instrument being played is the shamisen (三味線). I am not sure what one would call the singer, however, I believe that the genre of song is called minyou (民謡).

  • Ichikawa was in fact from gion and she came as a guest to Ritsumeikan University for the day to showcase a few dances and answer a few questions that some of the exchange students at the university had

  • Actually this song and dance is called "Gion Kouta" or the "Song of Gion."

It's mainly about the lifestyle and beauty of Gion (a Geisha district). The chorus focuses on adoring the Maiko's beautiful long obi (ribbon).

  • thank you very much for the title. the emcee for this event only talked about the song briefly in japanese. all i could translate was the summary of the story. i appreciate it, thanks.

  • @Kaneuchiha666 The singer is a Jikata Geisha, means singing Geisha. :)

  • I would like to see more videos about dances from Gion Kobu...

(I´m from Chile, I´m sorry if my english is not good)

  • She dance great! Now I can dance Gion Kouta...

  • @Bruuba I think no, because Miehina is from Miyagawa-cho and this song is from Gio Kobu.

  • @Kaneuchiha666 Wel the song is Ussualy performed by a Geiko herself . The Geiko specialized in Music are called a Jikata. and the one that dances is reffered as a Tajikata. I hope it helped! :)

  • Wish they had given her a backdrop. Beautiful performance...

  • @takaigaijin

The person singing for the Maiko (And the the rest of them in all of the Hannamachi) is called a Jikata Geiko.

  • This dance is so elegant and stylish. The movement of her hands were smooth and sharp. The foot steps also excellent. The Maiko must be one of the best dancer in Kyoto. I admire her dance with high respect.
