if you connect them at the bottom instead of the top, you won't need a second spigot.

You are right...I incorporated those vents from another online instruction but there is plenty of room by the downspout to allow all the air you want.

You are so right...but, those were set up at a school where I taught and it was partly a demonstration project...but this summer I plan to install several at home. No gutters installed yet but it will all happen.
