Divino Niño Jesus -Chupaca Group, Peru, Food
http://www.kiva.org/lend/304425

Carmen Maria is a member of the Divino Niño Jesus Communal Bank. She is 56, and she lives in a rural zone in the Chupaca province. She is married and has two children. Marcos is 18, and he attends the university. Carlos is 12 and in school. They help their mother prepare different typical dishes.

In the morning they prepare the dishes like stew, quinoa "atamalada" (boiled potato cubes, milk, cheese cubes, salt and finely chopped fresh herbs), "chicharon colorado" (a pork and potato dish), "picante de cuy" (guinea pig in a spicy sauce), and "chicha de jora" (a corn based drink), which is made from a base of seven grains.

Her husband works independently, but he helps her with the household expenses. He needs to do this because Carmen sells food in order to pay the university expenses.

The loan is to buy supplies and chairs for the business.

Carmen appears in the photo with a pink sweater in the center of the group. Her loan is for 1,000 soles.
