Maureen Forrester was a great singer and her voice will ring forever in the ears of those who heard and saw her. Brava Diva!

@intelegentable Yes Maureen ,was a magnificent singer, Her voice was l believe a voice very close to the contralto color of K. Ferrier.´l had a great and very happy luck to sing with her when she started, as l was, We sang together J Strauss Zigeunerbaron of Strauss. l still can hear her magnificent color of contralto in my mind.. The people complaining about her singing this music should note that there were not many countertenors (good or bad) around when this was recorded. (Major opera company cast records will confirm this). However, some those complaining see nothing strange about men singing music written for a female voice. Historically we are not always sure about who sang what or what the composers preferences were. But when someone gives such an outstanding performance, nothing else really matters.

@eyesk8er orfeo is pure Mythology, who cares about the voices, better a woman than a castrato or countertenor.

The version with a tenor voice looses many interesting moments.

Da notare che ella esegue les «notes inégales» (che ovviamente non sono indicate in partitura) alla fine del primo brano, in un'epoca in cui pochissimi/e conoscevano queste raffinatezze dell'interpretazione.

Meureen Forrester who just passe away had a intelligence of the text, of the music, that far oureached that of her comtaporaries... she was a visionary, in additino to beinf a God given vocal artist. Such a colour in her voices! Thank you Maureen... forever.
