Playboy Buddy Rose Heel Turn Portland Wrestling 7/14/84

From my recently discovered early 1980's Portland Wrestling footage....Portland Wrestling fans knew it had to happen sometime...After over a year as the #1 face in Portland, Playboy Buddy Rose returned to his roots and turned heel on July 14, 1984. The biggest surprise is that Rose calling Matt Borne "a pussy" was not bleeped on TV....remember, this was 1984!!!

I was thinking Rose had a heel turn in Portland against Jesse Ventura (when Ventura was babyface)???? Am I wrong about this, or was the Ventura/Rose altercation a separate heel turn in Portland?? refresh my memory, somebody . . .

Nope....Buddy was the lead heel in Portland from the day he arrived in Portland in August 1976 until this angle in June 1983. Ventura & Rose were a heel tag team, then Ventura became a face when he turned on Rose when he blamed Rose for injuring him when they lost the tag belts.

I do have some Portland Buzz Sawyer footage, including when he went by "Buzzsaw Kane" when he first arrived, but the quality isn't nearly as good.

I will now watch these videos with great memories. I am saddened to learn of the passing of Buddy. He will be missed greatly! :(

@oldschool6804 (not going to have enough room for my comments) You're basically right, but it was even worse than that. Rose taped himself and his wife/Bornes sister having sex and passed it around to the other wrestlers.

BUT, the confusing part: That was 3 years before this. He divorced Toni in 1981.

Regardless, knowing the background of this situation does make it even better, for it's intensity. Obviously I didn't know any of this for quite a few years after the fact.

@aceldamahotel i don't know if you're aware but rose and borne had legit hatred rose abused bornes sister when they  were married. this was mostly a shoot!

Buddy Rose flat out ran the Northwest, he was even better than Piper, and Piper would probably admit that with a smile on his face.

I was at this match, and I have to say that I was young enough that, when this happened, I was in legit tears down in the audience. Reflecting back, that means they (Rose mostly) did their job, of course. Thanks for the memory!

Also: People need to quit comparing this old stuff to current wrestling (better or worse). It's just a different climate and time. I definitely prefer this old stuff, too, but it's no reason to take away from what people in the industry are doing these days.
