@raueda yeah, Michael Mann says he does feel bad about killing the guy in the jazz club and you can see that for a brief moment after he kills him.
I think it's cool how the protagonist and the antagonist learnt so much from each other

there is a saying that:you don't know what is good or bad until the end...so max learned the lesson of his life overnight from this hit man,and based on that knowlidge he saved the lady in the end and I think somehow he is gong to profit from that in his entire life too.so therefore from my point of view the best thing happened to this naive dreamy character. wow brilliant!love it! and on the other hand I think the hit man liked him and before he died in the train "do you think anybody notice
