It was a new opponent, but the same story for the Alexandria Beetles as the early season struggles continue for the home team. Mankato got great starting pitching from Clint Dempster (Nicholls St) and the Beetles offense once again was stagnant in a 6-3 MoonDogs victory.
Brandon Garcia (USC) got the nod on the hill for Beetles head coach Scott Chisholm and struggled with his control, walking the first two Mankato batters. The MoonDogs put up four runs on the Beetles starter and Garcia was chased after only 3.0 innings of work. The Las Vegas, Nevada native walked five batters while striking out three. Five different MoonDogs notched RBI in the game and Robby Robinson paced the offensive effort going 2 for 4 with a run scored.
The Beetles bright spot offensively was left fielder Will Miller (Furman). The Furman product went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and a stolen base, his second of the young season. Kevin Vangheluwe (Michigan) pitched the last three innings of relief for Alexandria and was very effective, tossing three innings of shutout ball.
