A classic hit from Pat Kelly, while he was fronting The Techniques in the late 60s, before going solo. It is a cover version of the soul classic 'Minstrel & Queen' by Curtis Mayfield when he was in the 'Impressions'. This version, to my surprise has not yet been uploaded (until now). There have been so many versions it is hard to pick a favourite, particularly between Cornell Campbell and Dennis Brown's, but Mr Kelly was the first to record this song for Duke Reid.

  • That's not the 1968 original (i.e., 'original' in terms of the Techniques).

  • @AckeeEater... yes you're absolutely right, it's Pat Kelly on his own, but most don't realise that when this tune orginally came out it was Mr Kelly fronting the Techniques... so that's why I put techniques in the title.

  • @RootsDaughter41926

I believe It was Junior Menz singing lead on the Techniques original...

  • @theurbanmusicologist ... you believe wrong, Mr Kelly who took over from Slim Smith was the lead singer when Duke Reid brought "Queen Majesty". I know that Menz also did a stint at lead vocalist but it's Kelly fronting the original with the Techniques....

  • @RootsDaughter41926 Hope you didn't take my comment as a criticism..it wasn't meant to be but according to Pat Kelly it was Junior Menz who sung lead on the original.

  • @theurbanmusicologist ... no no, of course not... the recording released by Treasure Isle (Duke) has never been contested that it's not Mr Kelly, but you know what all of these singers moved around so much joining all the rocksteady groups it wouldn't be surprising if what you said it true anyway.
