He paid his dues as an itenerant bluesman, making the circuit and hoboing in the south just like the old days. This, coupled with his personal tragedies is what gave him that same hoodoo as the old guys. He was the real deal, nothing generic or fake about him. Just pure blues. I remember the first time I saw him walk out on stage. I had never heard him but just looking at him I knew that he was gonna blow the roof off the place. One bad assed motherfucker.

John Campbell had such reverence for the roots of Blues, those who formed the music to begin with and got on records in the early days..but he also was taking the music somewhere, and the technique of playing it. Incredible combination of timing, the voice, and adaption of acoustic and electric styles. He was sincere. Miss this player, this writer and his energy of the Blues. Never be another like him.
