In 2004 Veronica Stidvent was nominated by the President to be assistant secretary of policy at the U.S. Department of Labor. Stidvent has also been appointed on numerous committees and commissions. In 2009, Governor Rick Perry appointed Stidvent as commissioner to the Texas Human Rights Commission, a department which investigates statewide employment and housing discrimination. Stidvent grew up in El Paso, TX and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in Plan II honors and American Studies. She went on to earn a doctor of jurisprudence degree in 1999 from Yale Law School. Stidvent was appointed to a position as special assistant to President George W. Bush in 2003. She is now a lecturer and program director at the McCombs School of Business in Austin, TX
